Symbiote Black Cat is first hinted at during the prologue sequence, when Felicia's silhouette approaches in a cloud of burning smoke and grabs Spider-Man with tendrils. Interestingly, during this sequence she appears not as her symbiote form but in her usual leather costume. This may be a gameplay decision to conceal the twist of her infection, or may have been the symbiote's attempt to lure Spider-Man.
Upon the later resumption of the story after this moment, Spider-Man is found trapped under a pile of attacking symbiotes, with Black Cat nowhere to be seen. Upon escaping, he locates and pursues her to the top of a building, where MJ soon arrives to support him. After shooting several of Black Cat's symbiote minions, MJ is attacked, forcing Spider-Man to defend her. At the conclusion of the fight, Spider-Man throws Black Cat from the roof and into a smokestack, sending her careening limp to the ground. Realizing what he had done, he quickly hurried to help her, but finds her mortally wounded, only able to utter a few short words before losing consciousness. Depending on player choice, Black Cat may either be brought to S.H.I.E.L.D. by MJ for treatment (Red Ending), or infected with a piece of Spider-Man's own symbiote, leading to the creation of Symbiote Black Cat (Black Ending). This decision will impact which end cutscene plays, even if the opposing ending is achieved to one's choice here.
